Language, Culture, and Intercultural Communication: A Short Introduction

Time : 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Maybe you have heard before that ‘language shapes the way we think’, or ‘language shapes the way we see the world’. In this session, you will learn that this type of statements is both true and untrue. Linguists do not know whether language shapes our worldview (or vice versa), but we do know that language is often influenced by culture.

When you are learning a new language (like English), there are several ways to learn ‘intercultural aspects’ of that language, while avoiding pitfalls and possibly even mitigating culture shock. Join us if you want to find out more!

Dr. Cedric DESCHRIJVER
